Hiya guys and gals, I’m gonna have to travel to melbourne for work every once in a while. I think sometimes I can plan a weekend or at least a day there once in a while.

I’m not gonna ask for sights, but maybe some quality bars and restaurants?

Well really, the must see sights are welcome, too

Set up a date for a couple of weeks away. First date in two years. Scared, but I picked the location and it is somewhere I’ve been wanting to go for a while. I will have fun regardless :) unless he’s a complete asshole, but I can recover.

Will be so much more comfortable to sleep tonight. It’s not the same with aircon as having a naturally cooler night.

I had a semi-productive day today. One pumpkin has been cut up and roasted, most is now in the freezer. I also roasted some zucchini. Most of it will end up on toasted sandwiches in future, but some of the pumpkin will end up in risotto and similar dishes. I also made a pumpkin, onion and fetta pizza for dinner.

Ugh. Pay day is usually Monday. Boss did pays Monday (public holiday doesn’t bother him, he’s been known to go in and do our pays on Christmas Day if that’s the payday!) but there’s some kind of banking problem with payments for merchants to external accounts. I still haven’t been paid 😮‍💨 Hopefully tomorrow! 🤞🏼

    Jeeeeeesus christ.

Once home, feed the various creatures, smash some junk food and pass out.

I also had to make a LinkedIn today which I fucking hate.

Tourist in your own state is a great thing to do. I took six weeks long service leave once and just did things from home. Some hobby classes, walking tours, even just visiting as many local parks as I could to see what was there, it was great fun.

Ugh the place I do contract work for is absolutely pummelling me with new projects to take on. Looks like they’ve had some staff leave recently. No, I can’t do your work full time. I feel bad for ignoring / rejecting the project offers but they are a stop-gap at the end of day, not my full-time gig. They definitely have enough work to hire someone with my experience full time, but it’s cheaper to just use the contractor I guess. They also don’t pay me nearly enough to take on the extra burden of their staff shortages.

I’m planning to use this situation to my advantage to get a better deal on fees, they obviously need me and I’ve been working for them long enough now to have some leverage. I’ve booked a call with the staff manager next week, let’s see how we go! I’m becoming more ruthless in business by the day haha. But also, I need to earn the $$.

      This is great leverage.

If they keep coming back despite you rejecting project work, that spells it out.

I can’t imagine they’d knock back a 15-20% increase. I’ve been at places that have paid contractors $800 a day because they refused to hire in house talent.

I should note this was exclusively for project work.

My wallet was stolen yesterday. Again.

Police reports, reports to the landlord (stolen from inside my apartment, part of a break in…the building has known security issues with randoms following tenants in) etc all filed. New cards requested. It’s fixable. I’m just vaguely disgruntled with the universe and everything in it

      Oh gosh! That’s awful!

You are much more resilient than I am. I’ve had trouble sleeping since a break in years ago.

I do feel for people experiencing these situations where they feel theft is necessary for their survival though.

Yeah, look, it’s not my favourite thing. I’d much rather not be doing this today. Even so, this one bothers me less than many of the previous incidents because comparatively, it’s simple to fix.

Only one thing seems to have been taken.

        Nothing else was damaged.

Nobody was threatened or hurt. I wasn’t even present.

I have the means to replace all my cards - I did a passport application all of two weeks ago, so I’ve even got the photos for new ID already on hand! - and nothing immediately pressing that I need the cards for beyond daily convenience.

I’ve got a locksmith coming to check over my door, and I won’t have to pay for it because my landlord will.

It’s a time consuming inconvenience, but I’ve definitely had a lot worse.

That sucks, I’m thankful you’re safe and only replaceable stuff was taken. And that it doesn’t seem to have shaken you up too much.

Fingers crossed for speedy replacements (and that maybe victims of crime might get some of your money back)🤞

        Just CBD things.

I live next door to a homeless outreach. Most of the clients are harmless, but there’s definitely a probability higher than zero that one of them wanders in and starts doing antisocial stuff.

Fires in the bin room in winter, for example, because someone’s broken in and is trying to keep warm. Drug use in the community garden - we try to clean up any detritus of that. Vandalism in public areas, and once or twice I’ve witnessed fights. I’ve had the lock on my mailbox cut off and needed to replace it. The occasional break in.

My tolerance for legally questionable shenanigans may be higher than many people’s!

Honestly I don’t know how you do it mentally, you sound so understanding and unfazed! I would be too worried about violence. Meth paranoia and aggression is frightening to witness. I would nope out of there as soon as I could.

I’ve been homeless myself. That’s sort of why.

The home I have now is precious to me, and I wouldn’t leave it lightly - I’m disabled, and I have some accessibility needs that this apartment is perfect for - unless I was absolutely certain of having somewhere else I could go that met those needs too.

A lot of the time I really like it here. It’s just…occasionally really feral because people suck.

It’s all good. I didn’t think you were being insensitive.

I HAVE thought about whether it might be time to move. I’m not sure what that looks like for me yet, but I’m getting very tired of the repetitive criminal shit

How awful. So sorry. If they broke into your apartment, hope nothing else was stolen. If it’s happened multiple times, sounds like the apartments need better doors and/or locks! I can understand someone following through a foyer door, but it shouldn’t be that easy to get into someone’s apartment?
