Saying compassion vs critical thinking is such a dumb false dichotomy. Compassion is why you think critically. Compassion without critical thinking is ineffective at best and hurtful at worst. Critical thinking without compassion just turns you into a game theory robot.
The way they malign compassion isn’t just a red flag, it’s a bright line that shouldn’t be crossed, in my book.
Empathy also isn’t itself an emotion. It’s a cognitive process that lets you see the view point of another . Turning it off, predictably, makes you dumber.
Every time a GOP congressman suddenly decides that gay people deserve rights just because their son came out as gay , it’s displaying this problem. Gay people in general don’t suddenly deserve right because of your son. A rational person can see that they either always did, or still don’t. The cognitive process that could have prevented this person from being irrational before is called empathy.

Oh I know. Most of us know this. Almost every Narcissist lacks empathy. They are for lack of clearer word evil. They have no capacity to feel the harm they are doing so they do it thinking its their right. They hate the word empathy because it interferes with the harm they are doing.
