Yes, quite good. But it’s like From Dusk Till Dawn in that it feels very much like two completely different movies smashed together.

I understand that feeling, because there’s clearly two distinct halves of the movie, but to me the point is that these are one movie. The beginning is so optimistic, but ultimately they’re doomed. And if there were no vampires, they’d still be doomed. That’s just the nature of their situation, and I think there’s a powerful message in that.

I think that’s a great analysis. There is a sort of bleak optimism in that the course they take is one that ends in tears, but still accomplishes some good and establishes a foothold in the new order to come, for better or worse. A lot to unpack there. Thanks!

Some people seem to be claiming that you have to be african american to get it, but that’s not true at all.

The one part that seems to throw off people who are not familiar with the importance of music and dancing in culture makes perfect sense when you think of time including past and future. It was the the one thing that did take me a bit to wrap my head around because media tends to limit that kind of thing to the past.

This one truly deserves all the Oscars. Visuals, sound, script, pacing, and acting are all top level.
