Not sure what happened, but we’re suddenly inundated with compact phones for the first time in years.
Yes, we should take all of these with a grain of salt. Unihertz famously does not support their phones. Click has never made a phone before, though they seem to know what they’re doing. And iKKO… well, I’ll believe it when I see it.
But the fact that multiple companies are now racing to build smaller phones that AREN’T foldables is SO encouraging. Does it need a keyboard? Who knows! But the market should offer us a variety of form factors instead of just increasingly-larger phablets. It’s nice to see things go our way for a change.
Maybe it’s because I’m middle aged, but I got tired of phones getting smaller around the time Zoolander came out. Now I need the biggest phone that’s still in a roughly 22:9 form factor just to see it.
That said I agree with your idea that we benefit from having more form factors and more choices. Your convenience and desires may be very different from mine, so this way more folks get what they want.
I am also middle aged, 38, and I hate that I will have to give up the small size of my iPhone 12 mini for an iPhone 16/16e.
Though I hardly ever watch movies on my phone.
Though if I was on Android I would probably look into the fold as I love the concept
39 here. We are not middle-aged and whoever put the notion in your head needs a stern talking to.
I think you make yourself older than you are
Thank you for calling that out.
Signed, -A very old feeling 37 year-old
Same age and I recently bought literally the smallest Android phone I could find on my country’s major online retailer’s website (I would’ve supported a smaller business but I unfortunately needed the fastest possible shipping, which this retailer has). It’s still 6.36" and it’s more than big enough while not tearing a hole in my pocket (or my wallet) and it has everything I need.
I’m the opposite. I am a 40 year old man who wants a phone small enough to reach the entire screen without using both hands.
Wish the would connect to my medical devices, then I’d love to switch.
I didn’t know about this! What connectivity do your medical devices require?
Mostly the medical devices that support Bluetooth have a phone whitelist for some reason. Terrible imo.
What.the.fuck
Probably medical liability demands it…
Mainly an insulin pump and Dexcom. If I am wrong about this, please let me know!
I miss my old keyboard smartphone: LG Ally, cool little cucumber of a phone with physical buttons for navigation. We need more keyboards, not less!
I have the Unihertz Titan 2, got it a little over a week ago, and its been a much better phone experience than I’ve had in years. I switched from a galaxy S21 Ultra and its been a much better experience when it comes to trying to use my phone for productivity.
Biggest complaints I have are some apps don’t even acknowledge alternate form factors on android and do not work in the regular fullscreen, but you can always turn on mini mode and get the regular form factor, though it looks tiny compared to other phone when you need to do that. Buttons are a bit stiff as well, but I’m sure that will change with time.
Very excited to see how this style of phone evolves. Its a much better experience than full touch screens, and its so nice not needing to use autocorrect to make up for an inadequate input method.
I tried unihertz twice. Jelly2, no wifi out of the box, no support. Atom XL… Sigh No WiFi. Out of the box. No support.
Different routers, different locations… Not my home setup.
Bluefox NX1. Tiny phone! It’s not amazing, but it’s exactly enough phone for me. And, lo and behold… WiFi!
