That’s a surprisingly complicated question! If you post the playback info, that might help. Also, what are you hosting Jellyfin on, what OS, environment, gpu? Do the same videos pay back clean in VLC? Does the computer posting back the media have scaling, or a weird OS? I have my Jellyfin in a Proxmox container and had all kinds of issues when passing a (very old) GPU through, but without it I can’t get 4k. I have more than a few movies where I manually re-encoded them before putting them on Jellyfin and kept the source file zipped up for storage.

My local library has career coaches. They go over results, do mock interviews, but the career coach at my library? He’s a straight up headhunter, and he gets the best walk-ins referred to HR at companies that fit. I had a buddy who was four months unemployed, suggested he talk to the career coach, and dude got him a job in less than two weeks. Also, maybe look at non-profits in your area, might have volunteer or low-paid psych jobs that can get a foot in the door.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Before social media/internet/cell phones/landlines/payphones; how would 2 friends living across the same city arrange in person meetings and stay in touch?
2·2 days agoMy parents lived in a part of the world where they didn’t always have phones. Dad lived on a farm, mom lived in town. School together, Church together. After school, Dad would go “help around the house” at mom’s. Or vice versa. Once they got old enough, one or the other would go to the city in the family car for shopping, and bring the other with. Go see a movie, grab a bite to eat together.
Audio! I went from stereo to 7.1 and got this intense loud buzz that wouldn’t go away! (Fedora KDE). Drove me nuts. Spent hours trying every dang thing. Finally connected it to a Windows machine. Same buzz. My woofer had just ate itself. Nothing to do with Linux at all.

Music@lemmy.world•Which musical groups have the most unique and identifiable soundscape (ignoring lead vocals)?English
3·2 days agoClipping. Totally out of my usual genres.
I obsessively/compulsively update and optimize computers. I see a missing driver or BIOS update not installed? A dusty CPU Fan? A security alert? I fix. I literally just went to bed after running “sudo dnf update -y && Sudo flatpak upgrade -y” on my wife’s laptop that she doesn’t even use! Thankfully, my work lets me tinker on machines all day, every day, and nobody cares if a side project shows up on the bench every now and then. I would do it for free if I didn’t need the money. When I’m not at work, I do IT for family, and I volunteer at the library. I don’t even game anymore, I self host and tinker. Hell, I spend more time mucking with Jellyfin than watching media. There are people like that. We exist.

3·2 days agoSo, I like the idea of Esperanto. If everyone learned a second, easy to learn language, you’re meeting on equal ground. Unfortunately, I’ve only ever met a few people in my entire life who agree with that idea. But… If I don’t recognize the number? “Saluton? Kiel vi fartas?” If they start speaking English, wait a few seconds… “Domagxe, mi me parolas anglujon…” Not only do they hang up, but they tend not to call back. If it’s a real call, they usually ask for me by name and I can switch to English. Win-win.
I used to repair phone lines, and had to work in a yard with chickens. They just came right up to me and clucked and picked at me while I worked… It was hilarious and awesome. That had to be fifteen years ago, and I still remember being like, “Okay guys, I gotta move now…”

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Help getting started with self hosting Jellyfin via NAS?English
2·10 days agoI have a really cheap old as the hills desktop with an ancient Quadro gpu in it connected via a decently expensive but also used 10gb Nic to my nas which is running Proxmox and a bunch of containers, but the two interesting ones are a tailscale exit node and Jellyfin. The Jellyfin gets the gpu via pass through, and I get 1080p on tap anywhere in my house with no fuss no muss, and I can use the tailscale app, connect, and act like I’m in my house from anywhere else, including other continents. Noticeable delay on play and pause on media if I’m on the other side of the planet, but that’s it for limitations.

5·10 days agoI’ve had a bit of success with HDMI out to a splitter that does something funky with the edid, then into a capture card. The PC detects the capture card as a second display, drag the content into it, screen cap the “second display”. I had all the gear for unrelated projects, but I haven’t found any content I couldn’t grab this way.
I do IT for a company that actually makes the world better! (And I live in the Texas of Canada, so…)
I finally have an awesome job!
Hi! Unrelated to the content, and for that, I apologize. I’m on lemmy.ca, and I can’t see any images or content posted from any sopuli.xyz source. I’m also using Boost for Lemmy. Is anyone else having this issue?
Small world! I literally got an email today saying “We need more Math Quest volunteers! Please help!”
I volunteer at the Calgary Public Library. I do tech mentors, but they need Math Quest, Career Coaches, Ten Tech Labs, and ESL conversation partners. We need waaay more tech mentors! P.S. If you’re on Lemmy, you qualify! Last night, I taught a lady what left click meant.

1·17 days agoI tried unihertz twice. Jelly2, no wifi out of the box, no support. Atom XL… Sigh No WiFi. Out of the box. No support.
Different routers, different locations… Not my home setup.
Bluefox NX1. Tiny phone! It’s not amazing, but it’s exactly enough phone for me. And, lo and behold… WiFi!

Well, I think you should’ve splurged for a slightly better keyboard…
