    I have, but I am a straight lady, so the odds are different (I think it’s easier to find men, whether you are a man or a woman, and harder to find women, again whether you are yourself a man or woman).

    Though in most cases it was me posting, I got real guys on FetLife (even a husband, we are still together 15 years later) and Reddit, and a swinger site with a pretty big local population.

    Have not tried in some years (health scare no more swinger-ing) but wouldn’t be afraid to, again that’s from the perspective of someone looking for men, though.

    Met someone from a hookup post once, and for a whole night it felt surprisingly real.
    We talked about random life stuff, hobbies, families, even future travel plans, and it all seemed genuine and effortless.
    The next day the tone shifted, links started showing up, and it slowly became obvious she was actually a sex worker fishing for clients, not a real connection.
    It stung a bit, not because of the hookup part, but because it reminded me how easy it is to mistake a well‑practiced script for genuine interest online.

        That post is specifically discussing rules changes to the ask Lemmynsfw community, not the instance as a whole. This community is designed only to showcase users questions to the greater Lemmy, not for personals ads. There are plenty of spaces on Lemmy that allow personals(ignoring the fact that it’s a terrible medium for it), just not this specific community.

        No I know that but the post asks specifically about people’s experiences here with asking for hookups. That’s why I’m wondering. But maybe I’m wrong that they are not allowed like the other comment said.

    I might just be lucky, but it’s worked a few times for me. Short term things, nothing long term, but a few nights or weeks or months where we were both able to get what we needed.

    And also a few scammers and a bunch of sex workers, yeah.

    I’ve made posts on hookup subs and communities a few times but they never resulted in anything. I’m not looking for one time hookups. I’m interested in a long term friendship with benefits. That typically takes more work.

    I’ve had a lot of success over the years just taking to people in my orbit so legacy solutions like IRC, ICQ, BBSes, and things like Facebook Messenger (not to mention work email and chat services.) I develop friendships that turn into friendships with benefits.

    So, I guess I’m not really interested in hookup culture so haven’t spent a lot of time on hookup sites. I prefer a relationship,.

        I’m an autist and I’m very interested in the sensory aspects of being with another person. I like the sights and tastes and smells and feelings and sounds of the person I’m with. I like to experiment to see how the react to different things that I do. I like to feel and hear them breathing and to see how their breathing changes when I’m doing something I really like. You don’t get that from a hunk of plastic.

          Oh, who does not! Seeing and FEELING the other person go wild, is often even more important than just pleasuring yourself.
