The guitarist also criticized what he sees as entitled fan behavior in the current music landscape.
“Independent artists now have to navigate a Mad Max wasteland of survival and are the directed victims of massive ripoffs, reduced to beg and pander for likes and subscribes from self-entitled brats who want their work for free or for next to nothing,” Vincent said. “Yet these are the same whiners who have no problem paying someone $500 for a brick from a house he demolished or $1,000 for a sweaty pair of used socks. But you bitches cry and whine like fucking babies when VV sells something at a price you don’t like. Grow the fuck up! My price protects me from people like ‘you’ who will buy cheap from the theft of bootleggers.”

I might pirate his shit then just delete it after seeding 10:1 without listening to it at all.
I feel like the only way musicians can make guaranteed money now-a-days is to do live shows, like way back when. No one buys cds (with a huge mark-up) anymore. Do people still buy mp3s. I don’t think streaming pays that much either.
Market may not be as big, but yeah people still buy CDs, and mp3s. Also vinyl is back and pretty big as well. These people are the ones that hate streaming or still use streaming but want to support some artists they love more by actually owning their stuff.
It’s low, but some artists become big and do cool stuff like selling their albums digitally through the name your price model which is very favorable by people and normally works out great since there will definitely be people who toss a lot more than they should.
I get there are rampant problems with the music industry, but “Fuck you poors, I only sell music to rich people now” doesn’t seem like a reasonable solution. Also the whole “don’t buy if you can’t afford it” thing seems disingenuous when you are limiting distribution to 500 copies in the US and 500 copies for the rest of the world. Even if someone could afford it and wanted to buy it, there’s a good chance they wouldn’t be allowed to cause … reasons, I guess.
Why don’t you just do private concerts or something.
$225 for limited edition single!
lolololololol
Maybe if it was one full take recorded for me…
Is there really no other community to post this?
Ultimate Classic Rock reported that Vincent announced his plan to release “Ride the Serpent” at the jaw-dropping price of $225 per single. The former KISS guitarist has structured his release as extremely limited collector’s items. Only 500 copies are designated for US distribution and 500 for international markets per song.
