I feel like I’m as excited for their Christmas morning as they are.

My girlfriend and her daughter moved in a year and a half ago.

There is nothing that makes me happier than giving them as wonderful of a life as I can. Every day, I see their smiles, their happiness and it’s the greatest thing in the world.

We’ve presents under the tree and I spent a few hours helping her daughter make bracelets for her to give to everyone at our Christmas Eve party with my family tonight. We’ve been struggling to give gift ideas to family for her, because she doesn’t really want for anything.

Here I am reading this while I sit on the floor next to my son’s bed as he’s trying to sleep. He’s too excited that he doesn’t want to be alone. I’m so happy for him, and a bit sad that I haven’t felt excitement like that for so long.

My girlfriend gets excited easily while I don’t really do. I feel like its a personality trait like any other.

I have strong feelings, but excitement isn’t one I feel that much. It’s okay and I don’t feel bad anymore about it.

This is one of the most wholesome posts on lemmy I’ve seen in my time here.

On the same boat here, trying to make Christmas magical for the kids. Doing okay so far if I say so myself :)

    Merry Christmas and happy holidays!

The magic wasn’t Santa, or God, or something from space or heaven, now that we’re adults we realize that WE are the magic now. And I want my children to believe that magic exists for as long as possible.

“All right,” said Susan. “I’m not stupid. You’re saying humans need… fantasies to make life bearable.”

REALLY? AS IF IT WAS SOME KIND OF PINK PILL? NO. HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE.

      “Tooth fairies? Hogfathers? Little—”

YES. AS PRACTICE. YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES.

“So we can believe the big ones?”

YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING.

“They’re not the same at all!”

YOU THINK SO? THEN TAKE THE UNIVERSE AND GRIND IT DOWN TO THE FINEST POWDER AND SIEVE IT THROUGH THE FINEST SIEVE AND THEN SHOW ME ONE ATOM OF JUSTICE, ONE MOLECULE OF MERCY. AND YET—Death waved a hand. AND YET YOU ACT AS IF THERE IS SOME IDEAL ORDER IN THE WORLD, AS IF THERE IS SOME…SOME RIGHTNESS IN THE UNIVERSE BY WHICH IT MAY BE JUDGED.

“Yes, but people have got to believe that, or what’s the point—”

      MY POINT EXACTLY.

      -Sir Terry Pratchett, Hogfather
