This title is a little misleading. No, Trump has not been arrested but he did appear in court. He is not in any form of jail (yet).

    A little on a tangent here but…

I’m guessing News and WorldNews will, again and like in Reddit, be actually USANews. Let’s see what the fediverse and instances do bring to that issue.

The fact is that the whole world is addicted to US news and everyone wants to know what happens to Trump. Like it or not, the US is still the country that everyone else looks to, even if it’s just to shit on it.

I think at the moment it really depends on what posts people will submit to this community. There are still so few posts, that they will not get buried, like on Reddit.

That would probably depend on which instance you’re using.

Unless I’m misunderstanding how this all works.

That’s my understanding. The only challenge is searching for news communities but not knowing where the instance is geographically.

I’m sure it will sort itself out over time.

the Justice Department recommended the defendants be released with no financial or special conditions as they aren’t a “flight risk.”

Being “arrested” is not the way I remember it

Biden returned the documents before they even know they were gone and he was the one who told them he had them. Trump refused to return the documents when they were requested back and he is caught on tape admitting to knowing he wasn’t supposed to have them. Also he asked his lawyers to destroy evidence.

Huge difference between a crime with someone cooperating and someone who tries to destroy evidence. Also the content of trump’s documents seem like they’re higher level and more highly classified.

I am from Poland and didn’t really follow the whole case. Can someone explain me why there is a thread that he will be arrested? It is hard to find the origin as the whole case exploded.

There’s a LegalEagle video which sums it up: Trump’s Bombshell Federal Document Indictment

      Essentially,

      • Trump took classified information during his time as president and failed to return them
      • When asked to return them he failed to comply until forced
      • When forced to comply, he still kept many documents the government knew were missing and lied to the government and his lawyers indicating that they were returned
      • Was caught on tape admitting that he knew they were classified and that it was wrong for him to have them

The first bullet point apparently happens often (Biden, Pence, Hillary have all done similarly in the past). Trump is singular in that he didn’t readily comply with the request for the return of documents and the consequent lies to the government (also illegal).

He took top secret documents when he left the white house. They don’t belong to him, they’re meant to be secured in the library of congress or something. Anyway, librarians tried to get them back, he said no, did a bunch of illegal shit (including flashing them around people he wanted to impress) so FBI got involved, raided his place, found more secret documents, special prosecutor was appointed who took ages really nailing the iron clad case together. Now he been arraigned in court facing federal charges. Because Trumps a dumb shit.

There are only 3 requirements for being/ running for POTUS:

Natural born citizen 35 years old 14 year residency in the US

In theory he could be found guilty, still elected and serve from a federal jail cell.

I hope so too, but even if he does go to prison, remember, Hitler did too. And then became Chancellor of Germany.

I’m afraid we will be dealing with Trump until he dies peacefully of old age.

The article at least states that he was. But that does not necessarily mean he is in jail.

He was arrested, booked, fingerprinted, and formally charged on 37 counts then released on the condition that he avoid contact with potential witnesses in his upcoming trial.

So much unprecedented stuff has happened since his term, but I don’t think anyone was ever confident he would actually stand trial for a federal jury.

The vast majority of federal cases end with a plea deal. Any idea if that could include forfeiting any right to run for public office? Would be great for peace of mind if so

Well he already entered his pleas today, “Not Guilty”, and demanded (as is his right), a jury trial. The chances for a deal with the DOJ at this point are zilch, unless they can file amended charges based on a deal to enter guilty plea to some charges?

That would look way too much like partisan coercion and would absolutely blow up in Biden and the Democrats’ faces. They need to have a real iron-clad case if they’re going to make this work, which means they’ll need to prove it in court.

Trump is arrested and Kutcher scores $2bn. Seems to me like he got played by his own son-in-law.
