The author keeps referring to “Medical shifts” as clothing. I imagine they mean a patients’ medical gown or a pair of scrubs? My partner is a nurse and public health advisor she has no idea.

A shift is a type of dress . Similar in style to what you wear in a hospital.
It might he a more British word,and I assume the author is British given they referenced Tesco
