Yeah, they had their own problems with over-ambitious scale, but Owlcat had six different “Protagonist is Special” paths and each one had more interactivity with the player and the plot than the tadpole stuff. At some point they must have decided that “player refuses to engage with tadpole” would be simple or unpopular, shelved it for a while, and just never got around to it.

They literally have the game comment on you using the abilities like youre making some irreversible sacrifice of yourself, and it literally doesn’t matter.

Classic. I’m working through my first Honor Mode playthrough, and holy shit this is brutal compared to normal difficulty, and I’m still only in Act I! The worst near-wipe so far: I snuck into the cave where the two Zhentarim courier guys are hanging out so that I could steal the shipment from them, figuring that they’d get one-shotted by those freaking gnolls.

I was able to steal the shipment, but then I decided I’d try to help out. I had to run away screaming after about three or four rounds of combat, when half my party had been taken down by Flind fucking two-shotting them. The cave entrance chokepoint was not chokepointing. I only survived that because I kept Shadowheart posted by the back entrance (heyo) for a quick escape, and I also dashed the fuck out of there on my lead character once Shadowheart got to safety and teleported to camp.
