I dont know what a Kentucky Common is supposed to taste like but I’m pretty happy with how this one turned out. Despite it’s dark complexion it’s quite light on the pallette, and has a mild malty affect. Kicking at around 6% there’s only a slight boozy dryness due to the high amount of corn adjunct - but the booziness is mostly hidden by the malt. Overall flavor opens up when served cool versus ice cold.
This batch was ultra cheap (20ish dollars for 5 galloms)"since I harvested yeast from a previous brew, and used Aldi cornflakes for the maize input.
Anyhow I’m buzzed.
What are you nerds up to tonight?
Brewing really does seem like a fun hobby. I’ve been following this mead guy on YouTube for about a year now. Just makes me wanna jump in but I never wanna invest in the equipment
It really doesn’t take much. And almost everything needed at any given time is on Craigslist or Marketplace. Nearly everything I use I bought secondhand.

I’ve never bottled - only kegs. 5.5 gallons is my standard finished brew size.
I took a year break but for whatever reason I’ve been really into it the last few months.
im interested in seeing what your home brewing setup looks like
I’m brewing today so I’ll take pictures. But it’s basically a 10 gallon pot, a mesh basket, and a PID controller.
How can I get started with beer making at home?
