I read an article a year or so ago about how Britain took about 46 trillion from India during the British east India company.

Such estimates are always difficult, but indisputably a massive amount of India’s wealth was stolen during colonial occupation.

People who note that Britain brought certain infrastructure improvements to the places it imperialized are not always incorrect - but are often eager to overlook just how lopsided the ledgers still are even with the most charitable interpretations of British investment levels.

The world has suffered immensely from imperialism - and honestly, the vast majority of the benefits of imperial plunder were not to Britain; neither its government nor its people, but to a few wealthy elite parasites at the top.

Funny how that policy of imperialism managed to endure anyway.

That’s like an overbearing spouse saying you wouldn’t be the person you are without me and I think that was the sentiment back then. Like The indigenous people of all the colonies who were stripped of their culture to be more civilized.
