Total game changer, I’m sure this will convince the 5 people here who know of the party.

Had to check in my head quickly but I’m pretty sure I like the CPI.

Was there a different party, the ICP at some point? Are they still kicking?

Im going to be honest, they’re hard to track (for me at least). The workers party was the more popular one (seven TDs at its peak), but after the USSR fell it split and parts merged with labor.

I think People Before Profit (PPB) is more popular (trotskyist, describes itself as eco-socialist).

The ICP is a split from the CPI: https://www.leftarchive.ie/organisation/6387/

You’re telling me that the Communist Party of Ireland supports a person called Connoly for president? I am shocked by this outcome.

She’s the most popular candidate by far currently. She’s the only one who isn’t in the Fine Gael/ Fianna Fáil neoliberal parties who have been in power since time began. She’s the only real opposition and her policies are okay, she seems decent on foreign policy, being anti-militarism and anti-NATO. But the president of Ireland is a mostly diplomatic role, not a governance one, so the president is mostly a figurehead

A lot of people think she’s too far left, and the media likes to publish things she said out of context, but she absolutely crushed her opponents in one of the debates recently so she’s ahead in the polls.

Jim Gavin is a corporate puppet, he didn’t give a single substantial answer to any questions.

Heather Humphreys may win, she’s less controversial, but she has a lot of baggage (refused to learn Irish when she was minister for the gaeltact, husband was a member of the orange order).

Its too late for any other candidates to make the ballot, but maria steen was close. She luckily didn’t get enough nominations.

The president does fuck all in Ireland anyway.
