US starts selling weapons to Russia after Putin complements Trump
Trump gives Russia his blessing to take over Ukraine entirely, which it does with US military support. NATO member states are divided on whether to accept the arrangement, with some leaving the alliance in protest. Trump and the remaining NATO states threaten to sanction these countries that have now cut diplomatic ties with them, and subsequently increase military presence on their borders.
Sensing opportunity to damage NATO further, Russia gives Ukraine full sovereignty once again in order to improve relations and forge a new military alliance with the former NATO states.
World War 3 breaks out pitting NATO against this new alliance called Pax Armata. Then some video game called Battlefield 6 comes out.
