Has gaming actually gotten more centralized? It’s been three consoles+PC for a really long time, not much has changed.
Microsoft owns nearly half of the biggest studios and publishers, which wasn’t the case just ten years ago.
There’s also been a consolidation of game studios though. Now there’s basically a handful of big ones like EA that bought up everyone else.
And there seems to be a sort of monopoly trust going on for the past 30 years, with companies agreeing with each other on what game prices will be across the board. They are even openly admitting that they are waiting for a big release like GTA 6, to raise the standard release price of games.

Price fixing had only been illegal for who companies that don’t walk the billionaires’ line.
I don’t feel it has gotten any more centralised. Nintendo is sort of an outlier at this point with their exclusives. Some marketing dweeb at Nintendo did some calculations and concluded that lots of folks will pay $80 on top of buying a locked down console to go kart as Luigi so that’s where we are now.
