    The scale of this victory for Australia’s centre-left party is more like a mountain range blocking the fascist army than a speed bump. It’s significant in ways that are hard to over-state.

    The centre-right party has been decimated. They lost so many seats for their well known candidates no one has any idea who will lead them in forming a party out of what’s left of them. They’ve gone from something like 74 seats to less than 50, and the seats lost are in critically important places, the majority being inner-city seats.

    You’re right about addressing bread-and-butter issues, it’s inevitable that we will have a liberal / national government at some time in the future, but I don’t think future LNP leaders will touch the culture war given what’s just happened.
