I thought this movie was set between the first and the second. If you watched the second one, from 1986, you know that all but one die. But now I’m seeing a space station in the trailer. I’m confused.

How do we make that connection?

Honestly I don’t even remember. By the looks of it I was wrong anyway but I thought it was in an article somewhere. Definitely not suggested in the trailer.

I generally have low expectations of sequels, but one of the writers (Dan O’Bannon) is also credited on Alien and Aliens. The trailer doesn’t seem to leave much to the imagination, but given that xenomorphs aren’t exactly mysterious to viewers after eight preceding films, it seems possible that this one might aim to build tension in some other way. I’ll try to keep an open mind.

I can only assume they’ve credited him solely as one of the original creators, as he died in 2009.

edit: return of the living dead and total recall are two of my all-time favorites.

I dont watch trailers to avoid spoilering myself, but I am curious to know if this finishes off the two prequel movies? I know they are somewhat controversial but personally I liked them and would be a lot more interested in that than yet another timeskip or reboot

What were they thinking with the whole “xenomorphs are part human combined with black goo” nonsense in Prometheus? Reminded me of the Star Wars prequels in terms of unnecessary lore. It was still a better movie than Covenant though!

To be fair I enjoyed both… maybe harsh comparing it to Star Wars.

You think so? While the main cast is changed (due to gratuitous deaths in the first) we meet David again and learn of the fate of the sole survivor of the first.

I was sort of expecting to see the third revealing what happens to the hibernating colonists and David at their ultimate destination; which would presumably lead up to the original movie and crash site on LV-426.

I mean, it followed up the predecessor as well as Alien^3 did I guess. ;) “Newt? Hicks? Yeah, fuck you, they’re dead.”

Seems like they’re focusing on the body horror more than the previous installments with the close-up shots of facehuggers and that long-ass chest buster scene. Something tells me we won’t get much in terms of story or character development, but I guess we’ll see.

I think it’ll be a fun watch, but also looks to be just rehashing everything we’ve seen out of the franchise already.
