A study of baby-food containers shows that microwaving plastic releases millions upon millions of polymer bits.

I exclusively microwave everything in plastic, because I just want it all to end.

One of my ex’s was depressed and wanted to end it all…so she picked up smoking, not heavily, like a pack a week, so…playing the long game and all that.

The public health authorities never mention the main reason many Americans have for smoking heavily, which is that smoking is a fairly sure, fairly honorable form of suicide.

I stopped doing this a long, long time ago. It’s one of the reasons that microwave dinners are a no-go for me, and why my leftover food storage is mostly glass.

I honestly thought everyone else could smell and taste the hot plastic, and just knew this was a bad idea?

You have choices, but sadly, “let the microwave do all the work” isn’t one of them.

You can use the automatic “heat dinner” or whatever feature, but this is going to make everything in the oven way above eating temperature. Including the bowl. You meal will be fully thawed, but you need oven mitts to retrieve it.

You can also heat a few minutes at a time, stirring in between heatings. Passive convection of your soup doesn’t work as well as you think, and even with a turntable, there are going to be cold spots. Doing this will save you time and energy. But you can forget doing much else in the meantime; I recommend scrolling Lemmy on your phone while you wait.

A solid compromise is to have a bowl or terrine (with handles if you can find it) that you use as a microwave cooking vessel. Then, transfer your lava-hot meal to a cooler bowl. By then it’ll be closer to eating temperature anyway.

I kinda agree but then two dishes in the washer.

        This situation clearly needs innovation
