Mine would have to be Tom Lehrer
Scale the summit is pretty good if you like instrumental music focused around the guitar
Too add some Indian indie flavor to the mix, MALFNKTION is relatively obscure, the guy samples dialogues from old Bollywood movies to make funky electronic tracks.
It’s tough to say whether they are obscure or not, they are “obscure” in the West but I believe all these artists are moderately well-known in Eastern Europe: I love Воровайкии, Uamee (Hardbass) and Молчат Дома, to be fair I think Molchat Doma is kinda known in the West also bc of Sudno memes.
Comrade, I am so happy that you enjoy Hardbass. In the west, the whole genre may seem obscure, however, it was (maybe is) popular in UK (called Scouse House, maybe not exactly Hardbass but very similar), it is very popular still in Spain and Basque Country, still known in Poland (sadly, less and less, but we have good DJs like Clubbasse or Gopnik McByat), they are some good DJs from France. There are excellent DJs active, but the best club player for me is Sonic Mine from Sankt Petersburg, now sadly not active much. When I will have some spare time, I will upload somewhere his podcasts which I downloaded from some obscure Russian website, which is down now probably.
Awesome! I liked Gopnik McBlyat but I thought the name was a tad on the nose lol. It’s like if an American artist was named “Hipster O’Yankee” so I figured they weren’t actually from Eastern Europe, I’m glad to be wrong about that one 😂
Actually, you are not far from truth. The word “Gopnik” https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gopnik is not in use in Poland, we have a similar notion of “dresiarz” (one who wear only tracksuit, likes to beat people), but not many Polish people even know the word “Gopnik”. Poland is a strange country, which is not fully Eastern, but also not fully western, even if many politicians want it. There is artist from Spain, as I remember, called Sukahard, while “suka” is popular word in Slavic languages, meaning “removed”, and Spanish artists also frequently borrow the gopnik culture elements. BTW, this is one of the best, in my subjective taste, and most hardcore sets of Gopnik McBlyat, unless you already know it: https://m.soundcloud.com/tri-poloski-records/gopnik-mcblyat-at-tri-poloski-utrecht-04-02-23
Ahh! Три Полоски🤣 I love this one, I used to play this one to my Polish friends and they liked it, I bet none of us knew we were listening to Polish music lol. Do u mind if I PM u some of my fav Hardbass songs?
Do u mind if I PM u some of my fav Hardbass songs?
I would be very grateful, I make a collection of good Hardbass music, as it would be a genre on extinction 😁 the collection is ony disc, maybe when I finally have some spare time, I will share it in some way publicly

Hmm, not sure how obscure some of these are but excluding super well known artists, I still have a huge list of oddball stuff, here’s just some of them:
Atari Teenage Riot (and Alec Empire’s solo stuff, in spite of his politics), Ayria, Black Dresses (and both girls’ solo work) The Birthday Massacre, Chiasm, Corlyx, Darling Violetta, Das Präparat, Dead When I found her, Electric Six (and Dick’s solo material), Gost, Information Society (specifically Don’t Be Afraid), Kælan Mikla, The Mad Capsule Markets (and Kyono’s subsequent solo stuff - Wagdug Futuristic Unity and KYONO), Night Club, Patriarchy, Perturbator, Rabbit Junk, The Unquiet Void, Velvet Acid Christ.
As you can see it’s mostly dark, synthy, industrial stuff, sometimes very loud punky things like ATR or MCM, and E6 as a weird lighthearted rock band cause those guys just rock.
Oh and since I completely failed to answer the question, probably the most obscure artist I listen to regularly would be May Leitz, who does uh… a weird mix of rock, metal, indie, electronic… stuff. She also is a youtuber and a novelist.
The Birthday Massacre
This is the only artist in this entire comment thread I’ve actually listened to lol
Nice, I figured of all the stuff I listed they were near the top in terms of getting recognised. :)
I listen to a lot of metal and some of the genres and bands I like are kind of obscure to people who aren’t familiar with the genre. I really like Mongolian folk metal (i.e., Nine Treasures) but Vvilderness released a great album I basically listen to on repeat lol
I also like Lana Del Rey though.
Lana is probably the most mainstream artist in this thread
Interested to know who else knows of the following:
- Lightning Bolt
- Iglooghost
- Dorian Concept
- Speaker
- Ladies of Sport
Are those separate artists? If so, the punctuation is confusing.
Sorry, formatting behaved badly

Kikagaku Moyo are do amazing. Sad that they broke up and I never got a chance to see them!!
Although it is sad they broke up, that last album was great, and a welcomed addition to their discography.

- Ithaca
- Djunah
- Codespeaker
- Kowloon Walled City
Theeeeeere’s
Antimony Arsenic Aluminum SeleniumMight not be that obscure but Ratatat. No idea why it’s not a mainstream success.
Helped make Pursuit of Happiness an absolute banger
I’ve listened to Wildcat so much
Yea that one is such a classic. I recommend you listening to Abrasive, Cream on chrome and Karst.
I see Ratatat, I hear feline growl 🐯 love ‘em!
Try E.VAX, it’s another project from one of the Ratatat boys. My favorite is called Karst, it’s very similar to their style.
Yes, Ratatat! I learned about them through Kevin Rose back in the Diggnation days.
Try Karst - E.VAX, it’s another project from one of the ratatat boys.
Just got around to listening to it, the Ratatat sound is there immediately, I like it!

His live performances of Sam Stone are heartshatteringly good.
death’s dynamic shroud. I don’t do vaporwave much anymore, but I can sit there and listen to a dds.wmv tape for an entire week on repeat. Personal recommendations are the “Evangelis” tape, and the “I’ll Try Living Like This” album.
death’s dynamic shroud
I’ve yet to come across someone else who also likes them, that’s awesome! I really like “I’ll Try Living Like This”.
