Separatists are pretty up front about what this independent Alberta would do. Basically, it’s a power grab so they can build some kind of imaginary far-right wonderland. They don’t have much support, either, as of last I checked.
I’d be very surprised if the final polling exceeds 20% of the population in favour of separation; though even with a result that low it seems unlikely that 20% would let the matter rest.
