What even becomes of us now? What recourse do we have? What’s going to happen to us? Are we going to die?

If I found myself in that situation, I’d just leave. A visa to a more developed, civilised country like Thailand or Chile isn’t that hard to get, right? Or is leaving equivalent to ‘letting them win’?
