Absolutely. My entire friend group changed. I dont really like traditional masculinity and never did before I transitioned either, but I tried very hard to. After transitioning i had decided to stop living for other people and live for myself. So I made friends who I actually liked and relate to. I made friends who encouraged and supported me.

This community has always allowed image content. I’ve never really considered changing that. I’m curious what folks have to say about it.

When I first made this community I made it because I frequently browsed r/mtf and could not find a community on Lemmy that really fit with that.

I feel really that this community has diverged in some important ways from that subreddit though, and one of those has been allowing images to be posted here. I didnt want this to be a text post only community because I felt that it was good for transfem and questioning folks to have a place to share anything they wanted to. Most of the rules revolve around this principle of protecting a safe space for transfem/questioning people. Some kinds of images are banned. But I hadn’t considered banning selfies in particular.

Tbh I’m not a fan of how youve chosen to word this. It comes across as weirdly antagonistic towards other folks here.

I also think that language is important and what’s being left out here is the context behind why other people are shutting you down. Patriarchy fucks with all our lives and the oppression of women as an assigned class to the advantage of men as an assigned class is real and worth discussing. But I think that how we talk about that does matter. And I can see how language could quickly devolve this subject away from the central point of class solidarity and liberation.

Trans women have as varied opinions as any class of people. Studies consistently show that trans people as a whole are strongly left leaning and pro minority rights. Not to say that misogyny doesnt exist in trans communities but it is not uniquely common in trans communities.

A few things.

Firstly, OP specifically said “Ideally without disclosing I’m trans”. Your whole comment was unnecessary first off from the outset.

Secondly, you have grossly overstated medical necessity here. Hormonally trans women who have been on HRT are functionally much closer to cis women than cis men. Trans status is rarely relevant to any medical treatment that isn’t specifically about reproductive organs.

Thirdly, trans status is a matter of life or death in the vast majority of the world. Medical necessity, even if it were as significant as you’ve tried to portray it as, means nothing if you get arrested or killed.

I strongly dislike pornography, and absolutely agree that pornography has genuinely fucked with social perceptions of what healthy and normal sex is supposed to look like. It doesn’t by definition have to do this, but does so largely because of exploitation within the industry itself.

That being said, I am resolutely opposed to any attempt to gatekeep the internet in this manner. It’s really not about pornography. It’s about mass surveillance. Anyone with a VPN can effectively bypass these restrictions. Its the fact that the majority of people will not put in the effort to do so, and will more readily just let the app scan their face and note their identifying information. This has made tracking people significantly easier for the British government, and has opened the door to creating a legal precedent to control what kinds of content minors can access. Principally, it allows the restriction of certain political content from minors view. This allows it to function as a very effective propaganda tool.

This community is also explicitly supportive of all gender diverse people, including non-binary and agender people. I know that 4tran has a long history of transmedicalism and demonization of non-binary people. That is categorically unacceptable here and will result in moderator action.
