    That makes sense. Brazil’s options seem to be socialism (Lula) or barbarism (bolsonaro). Biden may not like socialism but he seems to be aware that basically anything is superior to far right populist dictatorships

      Yup, even that should be a big deal though. Throughout the entirety of the Cold War our foreign policy prioritized fascists over socialists to the point we backed many of them like Pinochet to overthrow their democratically elected socialist governments.

      Now the Democrats are explicitly doing the opposite, I feel like that’s a massive change.

        Very true. Especially since Biden is an iconic member of Clinton’s third way. And given the American shift from “communism has the right to exist but not to expand” to “no communist states have the right to exist” in US foreign policy in the late 20th century this is even more impressive.
