Yeah they keep framing this as if the phones are the problem rather than the mediocre at best slop they keep producing. Half of my Netflix usage is something I put some very mildly interesting slop in the background while doing something else like eating lunch or cleaning. When the show/film is actually engaging I’m glued to the TV screen and forget about my phone.

They’re on average more consistent on their positions, sure you can find plenty of self proclaimed MLs that are absolute clowns and nobody has the most pristine and most correct take about literally everything but in general they have more coherent positions on current geopolitics and are generally highly skeptical of imperialist propaganda, unlike anarchists who are all over the place.

The scary part is that they do, it’s just that times have changed and they know it’s more accepted nowadays so they can be open about it in more contexts than before.

How is any of that “post” fascism? It sounds like regular fascism in its somewhat early/mid stages before they completely seize power, it might come to that an it might not that remains to be seen but it’s still a “regular” fascist movement. The Trump/MAGA movement has all the hallmarks of regular-ass fascism: return the nation to some mythical former glory by way of strongmen, militarism, misogyny, having some “others” as the enemy etc.

The US gov’t is pretty consistently an antagonist throughout the show as well.

It is but the show doesn’t really ever fully acknowledge this, here they are torturing kids and poking around eldritch dimensions but none of the main characters ever actually question this, it’s just kind of treated like a fact of life, like “it occasionally rains and snows and also the US government sometimes tortures kids in their secret lairs”, there’s just zero self reflection. At the end of season 5 everyone just kinda moves on with their lives and that’s it.

Season 1 and 2 were alright but nothing spectacular, it was largely carried by the 80s nostalgia vibe and references to nerdy DnD shit tho, if they set it in modern day it would likely flop.

I know the Duffer brothers don’t really give that much of a fuck about any of this anymore but it must hurt at least a little bit that a big chunk of your fanbase sent themselves into mass psychosis because the ending of your show was so bad.
