While counter-intuitive, the big banks are actually really good about queer issues because they have to be and don’t want to get sued. The bank I work at has an entire gender expansive community in addition to its queer focused community and it has been a life saver. Found good people to connect with and also many allies outside of the community just in the workplace. Combine that with good pay and a constant need for good software engineers and the big banks are a really good home for queer folks looking for a safe haven.
P.S. I know banks don’t have a perfect track record on queer issues and individual experiences may differ from what I mention here. This is just my experience working with a bunch of trans/enby folks at a bank.
To add to the advice, I would only make plans you feel confident in being able to keep. I recently made the mistake of making plans with someone and wasn’t able to keep them due to some personal stuff. I plan on re-approaching this person again once my life settles down, but I can tell it’s dampened our friendship from the start.
