Once the election is officially called on Sunday, will the bill be considered dead and have to be reintroduced in the next parliament? In effect, don’t petitions also die when the bill associated with them dies?

It may as well be delayed until the bill is re-introduced with the next government, as it may not even be re-tabled in the House with its current deficiencies.

This is true (about an hour before any official policy was released), which means it was published as a half-informed leak instead of news of actual policy. However, claiming an (inaccurate) leak as released policy remains misleading.

Like most USian news sources, the article is misleading. Ford said he will add a 25% export tax on electricity IF tariffs persist. He did not provide a timeline on exactly when he might do it. He referred to this as “keeping the powder dry”

Definitely a big day. With the launch of NSL this year, hopefully we’ll continue to have a selection of great players to keep all our women’s teams near the top of the rankings for years to come. Definitely looking forward to the next WWC.

Moncton would be fun, and is likely the only other option in the Atlantic. Newfoundland could perhaps manage something in St. John’s, but travel is always a big issue.

I think we’ll see more of a Halifax - Moncton rivalry materialize in League1 Atlantic, with an eventual upgrade to bring the rivalry to the top tier once a club has more solid footing.

The real shame is the continued absence of any side in Quebec. Montreal and Quebec City are necessary additions to the league, and the fact that they aren’t top-2 for 2026 remains concerning.

This sounds cool, but it doesn’t look like it’s intended to ever go to market.

Maybe there will be a pivot with the current political situation state-side, but that doesn’t seem to be the purpose of this project.

!greater_sudbury@lemmy.ca is actually the 2nd or 3rd oldest city-based community on lemmy.ca . It’s not very active, but should definitely be added to this list.

Also, !canadasoccer@lemmy.ca would be a good community to add to the soccer category.

For team-specific Canadian-based soccer teams, there’s !torontofc@lemmy.ca of the MLS (US-league with 3 Canadian-based teams). Other MLS sides include Vancouver Whitecaps and CF Montreal, which I don’t think have a community created.

None of the 8 Canadian Premier League teams, nor any of the numerous League1 Canada sides have taken steps to establish their communities yet (as far as I know).

Peertube is the Fediverse equivalent. It needs more content, and more instances to host said content, but it’s a good start.

I’m working on growing !greater_sudbury@lemmy.ca myself, and have tried to limit to 1 or 2 posts per day, just to keep them coming and leave openings for other locals to step in, but without the same kind of response.

Perhaps I’m the one that needs to take on a more aggressive seeding technique…

I don’t have an issue (I was replying to the previous post), especially as I do see value in seeding a community with posts. An empty community is a dead community.

However, it may be of more benefit to spread them out. After all, this is all federated. So anyone following the community from elsewhere (my prior reply was from a Mastodon account), they will receive a big wall of posts from this community all at once, but if they were to log in later in the day, they would see nothing (as it all posted earlier).

It would also allow other people to post something themselves and start a conversation in the post, as opposed to just an unexamined link.

Some might also see it as an attempt at spamming or karma farming (even though that no longer translates). Perhaps those thoughts may be something to consider.

I guess we would need to lay out some base rules, maybe create/platform some “parties”, launch some sort of “election” or appointment process, and then develop issues to debate. It could be a an entertaining/interesting experiment, but it does need a certain critical mass to launch.

They’re just over 2.7k right now, probably be over 3k by end of day.

I wouldn’t expect our 1.1k to balloon nearly as quickly, but it will be nice to snag more Canadians from the reddit-exodus.
