Maybe. Trump’s power is waning, and it’s hard to predict exactly what he would do anyway. It’s likely democrats will control congress next year and can send aid. If Europe can hold out until 2029, a different president might be more willing to provide active support.

ICE is a natural evolution of the way American police have operated for decades now. It’s wild that people don’t see that. They didn’t just appear from nowhere.
Are they worse than police? Arguably yes, but they didn’t just appear spontaneously from nowhere. Our failure to reign in the police and force them to obey the law led directly to the behavior we now see from ICE. We’ve let the white supremacists run wild and refine their techniques for a long time now.
The fediverse is not a safe space, excepting a few instances like blahaj.
People can and should make instances for different philosophies but my concern is that any instance that doesn’t enforce leftist purity is going to be defederated.
Maybe an attempted deplatforming would be more accurate.
They’re not going to learn about it because most people who join the fediverse end up leaving and they don’t recruit anyone else.
The Overton window would be moved by people being exposed to far left ideas and finding them more reasonable than expected. But the community does a very poor job of doing that currently.
The article is literally about Macklemore being deplatformed. It’s backfiring to an extent but there are a bunch of b-list celebrities who have been blacklisted and who don’t have the reach to fight back.
Fair point but while celebrities get deplatformed, ordinary Americans get arrested or fired, and immigrants get abducted and exiled. So the broader point remains true even if we’re maybe focusing excessively on the celebrity aspect of it.
Weirdly it’s dropped as sort of a side note in the same article. You’d think this would be a bigger deal.
I guess I want to know what their demands were. Like if they were every Israeli needs to leave Palestine that’s going to be perceived differently than if they wanted some hostage exchanges, and maybe a truce or something.
