  • The Apothecary Diaries season 2 finally finished airing last week, so here are my final thoughts: it is still so good. Season 1 has mysteries that kept you on the edge of your seats, whereas season 2 goes in a somewhat different direction, becoming more political, ancient-Chinese drama-like. It has been dropping many hints in the show, such that I am quite confident that there would be even would ancient China drama in the coming seasons.

    My prediction is that

spoiler for The Apothecary Diaries if I guessed right

there would be more foreign interference or an outright war with another nation. They have not fully dealt with the mysterious ambassadors IIRC, and there’s all that imported guns.

If The Apothecary Diaries decides to go down the path of a typical ancient China court drama, I would also expect to see a power struggle in court or within the royal family. Though, I find it hard to see the current emperor and Gyokuyou losing popular support or getting outwitted by a political opponent, and failing to retain power.

My moonshot prediction is that Jinshi and Maomao would end up being exiled for whatever reason, then founding a new nation together.

Coincidentally, The Apothecary Diaries ended with episodes focused on a character named Tamamo just like my other top anime of the season, Umamusume: Cinderella Gray.

I also watched the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie over the weekend. I find that it’s just ok.

Okkotsu Yuuta’s story is a typical superhero / battle shounen’s story. It’s nothing special. Personally, I prefer the plot-twists-filled main story of JJK.

    I still enjoyed it enough.

I couldn’t find the time / energy / money in me to play the Umamusume mobile game, so I thought I’d show my support for the franchise by buying some merch.

Tokai Teio plush and bluray set

Out of all the characters in the anime I have watched to date, I’d say Tokai Teio is the most inspiring to me, and has my utmost respect.

The only other one who can compete in this regard is Haru Urara. They should totally make an anime that features her, especially since she is so popular IRL. It need not be a full-season show; just an OVA would do.

  • Capital Economics analysts warned that some firms use AI as cover for cuts driven by poor financial performance. “For some firms, AI is a way to spin job losses driven by poor financial performance in a more positive light,” they wrote.

The AI job apocalypse narrative serves multiple purposes: it justifies hiring freezes, explains away poor financial performance, and creates urgency around AI adoption.

I suspected as much too: that the people in-charge are using AI as a scapegoat so that the anger that would have been directed at them gets turned towards AI instead.

Given that there’s a vocal minority of Lemmings who blindly hate AI, I’d say their propaganda has definitely found at least some success.

I appreciate your effort. I was more of a lurker on Reddit, but realised we all got to actively participate here if we want Lemmy (and the Fediverse at large) to succeed.

Unfortunately, content marketing is a long-term ROI strategy. IMO other marketing means (e.g. ads, influencers) would do a better job of bringing new users onboard in the short term, helping us to tap into the network effect.

    "That's my Tsukasa" meme

    welcome to the club, pal

It’s nice to see a fellow fan. I’ve always find it a pity that top-tier anime like Medalist get overlooked / underwatched by the general anime community.

I’m glad there are people like you who are willing to give them a chance.

I know these recommendations are uncalled for, but I think you may enjoy these anime too:

Girls Band Cry - Nina (the protagonist) is an idiot unlike Inori, and the anime is about music instead of sports, but I find that their stories are quite similar.

Umamusume: Cinderella Gray - The similarity here is more straightforward, with both being sports anime.

  • Past Seasons

I completed two anime over the past week. As usual, top-rated shows do not disappoint.

Grand Blue was good dumb fun. The slapstick humour was on point and got me laughing my ass off many times. I am glad I picked it up right before season 2 airs.

    Easy 9 / 10

While watching Girls Band Cry, I had an epiphany: this is, in fact, a sports anime. The “sport” here just happened to be making music.

    Think about it:

It has all the makings of a sports anime: main characters being heavily disadvantaged, them having tragic backstories, strong rival(s), numerous other obstacles; but despite all that, they persevered.

But if we take it one step further, a lot of these stories of sports teams or bands are typical of start-ups. It’s just that the space are they in is sports / music.

Anyway, stories like Girls Band Cry never fail to tug at my heartstrings. Despite being a dumbass, Nina’s personality makes me (and everyone else) want to root for her. Same goes for the other band members with their backstories. This show knows how to get you to connect with its characters.

There’s not much I can add besides saying that this anime is absolute cinema. 10 / 10

    flip them off! (with pinkies)

P.S. I enjoyed their songs; now Hokago Tea Time has a challenger. I haven’t watch much anime with bands, but my current ranking is as such:

    1. Hokago Tea Time (K-On) - Don’t Say Lazy is the GOAT. Let’s Go and Sweet Bitter Beauty Song are pretty good too
    2. Togenashi Togeari (Girls Band Cry) - Void is solid
    3. Kessoku Band (Bocchi the Rock) - No songs particularly stood out / fit my taste

(Not including Girls Dead Monster because it has been quite a while since I watched Angel Beats or listened to their songs)

P.P.S. Perhaps it’s because I’m obsessed with Umamusume lately, but why do so many of these band names sound like horse names?!

Mad Dash, Neon Mirage, Stardust Creek, etc
