To be honest, I think the best time the US should’ve become a socialist country would be during the Great Depression - the economy was going down the toilet and people are waiting to get by, but it’s gonna require word-of-mouth, an aversion of the Red Scares and such. What about market socialism? A market economy should be necessary in the transitional stage between capitalism and communism (or a socialist-democratic dictatorship of the proletariat, if you prefer).

Well I think that the people should own the means of production under a market economy (as long as no one’s getting hurt) - that’s how I’d describe libertarian market socialism which can be seen as a revisionist-type form of socialism (or a variant of Mutualism).
