The guidance comes after Rebecca Burke, a 28-year-old U.K. citizen, was detained and deported from the U.S. and returned to the U.K. on March 18, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Burke, a cartoonist, had been backpacking across the United States, sharing her journey on Instagram, where she posted about her stays in Portland and Seattle.
Her father, Paul Burke, voiced concern in a Facebook post, explaining that his daughter had no criminal record and was on her way to Canada when she was denied entry due to an “incorrect visa.” She was then refused reentry into the U.S., classified as an “illegal alien,” and detained by ICE.
It’s that part that’s concerning. In the past, this wouldn’t have even been something that was a concern. Mistakes happen no matter how diligent people are. She likely would have just been referred to the consulate to get things in order.
Why don’t you explain to us, what absurd logic you used to determine they’re the same?
There was a recent arrest in my hometown, where they were driving around a neighborhood in unmarked, basically beater cars. They burst out of the cars, were wearing masks, and refused to identify themselves. The story also claimed there were no visible badges, but that the ICE logos were visible on a few of them. They arrested 3 young men from India, and that’s the last that’s been heard about it.
Point being, and I say this NOT as someone who’s out looking for a fight. I am a gun owning (many times over) liberal leaning centrist (most of the time). If I saw that shit going down in my neighborhood, I would probably have responded with an armed response. I will not stand idly by and watch my neighbors be drug from their homes by armed thugs.
I’m about at my wits end with Reddit as a regular user. I have 2 accounts that I’ve used there for a while. One of them is my main user account, the other I use mostly to mod some subs.
My main account recently caught a 7 day ban because of their stupid new “Violence” bullshit. It’s so targeted, and blatantly obvious that it really only applies to comments about certain things. They removed the comment that supposedly triggered it, but all I was was
Hey Leon, you remember when you hit the cybertruck with a baseball bat? Why don’t you go fuck yourself with it.
That’s it, that’s all I said. You could post that same comment directed at an actual Reddit user, and not catch a ban.
Don’t misunderstand me here. I am not now, nor have a I ever been under the delusion that Reddit was the bastion of free speech they tried to claim for years. But seriously, they need to get their fucking heads out of their fucking asses.
I think you have to buy a new Tesla to get that aid now.
You could not support their wars, and also not stoop to their level of pettiness.
No, he’s not. Even if he could get congressional approval, which is highly unlikely, the military would have to comply with the order. The likelihood of that happening, I can’t even fathom.
He’s just a fat ass blow hard making noise.
Liberal American here, for a long time conservatives here have miscalculated how well armed many of us are. The anti-gun crowd (not to be confused with gun control) are just the vocal minority on the issue, giving the impression that liberals hate guns. My gun safe begs to differ, and I own more guns than any conservative I know.
Every person that has worked in a sysadmin type role, has joked about doing something like this. Very few actually carry through with it. So, in a way, I kinda like this guy for actually doing it, even if he didn’t cover his tracks very well.
Pretty cool, right?
It’s only a matter of time before Americans aren’t allowed in foreign countries without proof of vaccinations. Which at this point, I’m fine with.
Sure would be nice to have an adult leading this fucking country.
What a petulant fucking child.
Not for those if is that are new.
For anyone looking at this. I’m looking at ways to tag/distinguish posts for what they’re relevant to. Unlike other sites, there isn’t a built-in feature for this. However, for now simply use [Your Tag]. That at least makes your title standout a little.
We can be ignorant together, because I don’t know the answer to that question. I’m still getting a handle on the mod tools. I like your suggestion though, so I will file that away to look into further.
Which is stupid. A mod can just ban you forever and call it a day. Where the Admins have fucked up is if you harass a mod via modmail, they can only mute you for I think 28 days max, before you can start harassing them again. So, instead of letting a mod simply mute you forever, they created the report bullshit.
They recently, meaning I don’t exactly know when it happened, gave mods the ability to report you for “Abuse of the report tool”. For the record, I’m a mod on some subreddits, and that’s an absurd thing to need. I’ve learned a few things about being a Reddit mod.
I can’t even imagine fucking around with immigration or the TSA. I get stopped often enough when I’m not doing anything.
Funny story. I usually use my Passport Card when I travel domestically. Makes sense, right? I mean how much more official of an ID can you have from the government. Anyway, a few weeks ago I was flying from NC to FL. I get to the TSA agent, and hand her my ID (Passport Card) and boarding pass. You would have thought I had handed her some piece of alien technology. She looked at it, turned it over a few times and then asked me “Do you have your passport, or any other ID”. I was literally dumbfounded. In all the years that I’ve been doing this, it’s never once been questioned, or caused any confusion. I replied “ma’am, you’re literally holding my passport in your hand”. Shockingly, that did nothing to alleviate the confusion, and she eventually had to get a supervisor to help. Coming back from FL, handed the TSA agent the card, they scanned it and told me to move along lol.
