I don’t, but I saw an unlocked bike in a park downtown remain in place for 4 days earlier this year. Bike theft just isn’t a thing where I currently live.
In the last place I lived, my bike was stolen in under 12 minutes.
Well I envy you.
I went to the grocery store to grab a drink and I locked my bike. I was in the store for less than 3 minutes, when I came out my bike was gone. 3 minutes! I was so sad.
Person I replied to deleted their comment… They said they don’t lock their bike.
They saw a bike unlocked in a park for 4 days and no one bothered stealing it.
I don’t think they deleted it, it’s still showing for me at least.
Very weird. It does not show up for me. I go to my comment in my profile and click “load all comments” and still nothing 🤷🏻♂️
Do you use Memmy? Because I’m frequently missing some comments when using Memmy.
I am using Memmy… interesting. Maybe I should try something else.
Showing ok on kbin.social
I didn’t delete it. I see that it might be a problem with whatever app you’re using. I recommend just using the browser on your phone, all of the apps I have come across have issues.
I hate to be that guy, but if you’re not using a u-lock you’re basically advertising a free bike for anyone with a pair of cutters
It was a U-lock They used cooled air and smashed the lock.
Then you need to spend more than $15 on your u lock, canned air can’t do anything against one that’s built properly
👍🏻
i got 2 bikes stolen out of my shed. so yes, i lock the bike. with multiple locks.
Me too. Two bikes stolen from the shed.
I once was the only one confronting a couple which used a saw on a bike to let it loose. Turned out she lost her keys and she thanked me for speaking up. At least 200 people passed and nobody confronted them. A pity nowadays.
I don’t. Maybe I should. I have housemates who use the garage for their actual cars, so I do feel like I’m trusting them to keep the garage door closed, but then again, one of them works from home, so he usually keeps an eye on things. Also, my neighborhood is like super dead, basically nothing ever happens there.
Might not be the worst idea, though.
Yes. With two locks on top of the lock that’s in the door.
Then there’s also the fact that my bike(s) have a custom “paintjob” done with duct tape so if it gets stolen and they want to sell it they first need to spend hours peeling off the tape with a hot air gun.
I don’t even lock my shed. Que sera sera
No, and it’s never occurred to me to do so.
I just bought a home with a garage, so I appreciate this topic coming up.
Congrats on the new house!
Thank you! I’ve put in a lot of sweat equity to get here
I know the feeling. Bought my first house 6 years ago. Best purchase of my life!
Nah, my bikes aren’t worth that much and my area has an incredibly low crime rate. I heard rumors of a breakin before me moved in, but that was ~8 years ago and was apparently a neighborhood kid.
So no, I’m not worried about theft at my house. My bike does have a beefy ulock on it that I use every time I go out (despite the low crime rate), but I never lock it at home.
Yes, insurance wont cover it fully otherwise. Chained to a metalhoop in the concrete just like my Nimbus motorcycle.
No, but my shed is secure, and there’s also more desirable/expensive things in there someone would take first.
I built a locking loop into my bike shed. Used it for about a month before I got bored of that. It’s a pretty secure metal shed
nope
Yup. Only bikes that I don’t lock up are the ones inside my house but even those I get nervous about when my girlfriend leaves the house and doesn’t bother securing the windows properly.
I’ll never leave my bikes on the street, even locked up. If I have to go into a shop when I’m out on my bike then that shit is coming in the shop with me.
I always lock my bike. It doesn’t take that long to do and isn’t particularly hard either, so there’s little reason to expose myself to the risk of having it stolen, no matter how small that risk may be.
I don’t, but our neighborhood is off the beaten path and really quiet. The bikes are in the locked garage that is reasonably secure.
