That seems unethical, no? Hope EU slaps them with some fines for this BS. Same with premium early access for gaming. Consumer rights are being stripped little by little.

Edit: help me out here. Why is this controversial? Maybe I should have said “premium early play” instead of “premium early access”?

      Did you read the article?

a Google spokesperson confirmed that yes, benchmark apps were blocked on Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro ahead of the public launch. The aim behind this was to “avoid” leaks, and it was Google’s intention to unblock these apps prior to general availability of its new devices.

I rarely read the article, instead skim the comments for people that mention the main points. TYFYS o7

I love how the answer to everything from an EU resident that disagrees with anything is to cry to the govt to fine people.

Consumer rights are being stripped little by little.

Explain how privilidged early access is your “consumer right”. You have an entitlement issue.

We tried the free market self regulating, turns out it doesn’t work.

As someone who’s not an EU resident I love what the EU does because it tends to make the market better globally. See: iPhone switching to USB-C

You mean the charging port that they’ve been moving thier products to for years now? Dont kid yourself. Did the EU crying about it speed up what was clearly already happening? Probably.

What else do you like about the EUs viewpoint that that they’re tech dictators? The hatred for privacy? The attempts to take encryption? Mandatory backdoors? How about France with their new ability to activate mics and cameras on people? Youre being blinded by random decent things and ignoring everything else they stand for.

Ya, I like that they’re tech dictators. I think everyone should be more dictatorial with big industry. Do I agree with all the policies and regulations they come up with? Absolutely not. But at this point I’d prefer bad regulation than what we currently have from the completely toothless US regulators.
