It was in vain since the USSR has ceased to exist.
It was not. Nazis were defeated, possibly hundreds of millions of lives were saved, socialism get to show the awesome achievements for the next decades proving it do work.
Sorry, I should have been more specific. What I meant to say was that everything the Soviet people shed blood and tears for was eventually destroyed through the dissolution of the USSR.
Not everything. Some mechanisms they set up in both USSR and the socialist european countries still works even now (for example i’m not dead yet and not in extreme poverty because of that so i appreciate it personally), and they left a powerful legacy which is instrumental for every current and future fight.
