糖尿病
thank you for peeing in Mandarin corner. your results should be back from the lab in three business days.
I mean when the doctors were just absolutely sure I had to have diabetes they did make me pee in a cup a LOT.
maybe they were sneaking sips when no one was looking
Way back in the day that’s how theyd diagnose diabetes, if your piss tasted sweet
Patrice O’Neal found out he had diabetes when his girlfriend told him his pee tasted like birthday cake
Golden showers save lives
Back then lab results came way faster! All it took was one sip and the doctor’s stare deep into your eyes.
The stare should be standard regardless of the test result
Resident doctors practicing the stare, Song Dinasty:

TYL what apple juice actually is
Makes more sense than “di a betes”
yeah it’s kind of a weird one
The term diabetes is derived from the Ionic [Greek] for ‘siphon’, meaning “to pass or run through”. It reflects the dominant notion at the time that fluids consumed by the diabetic patient passed through the body unchanged, as if flowing through a tube or siphon.
to be fair, one of the symptoms of diabetes is high fluid intake and high output. You pee a lot as a way to eliminate sugars.
dia-peetes

Pretty close to the Danish “sugar disease”
In Japanese they use the onyomi (Chinese derived pronunciation) tōnyōbyō (word break is to/nyo/byo) makes it easy to remember
The “They used to test for diabetes by taste” fact has already been shared.
But fun fact: the type of diabetes you think of when you hear the word is called diabetes mellitus.
Which roughly means “Honeyed funnel” , because of the flavour. (Although in true medical fashion one word is Latin, one is Greek)
