Maybe find someone that doesn’t get drunk and shout at you either way?

I either voraciously hit on/confess my affection to my SO or go on a super autistic scholarly lecture about some obscure special interest when I’m drunk and I’m lucky they put up with both in fairly equal measure lol

I urge young people to never suffer toxic people. Cut them from your life. Family too. Surround yourself with decent people and you’ll be so, so much happier.

How do you meet new people though? With work and chores, there’s very limited time. And besides family and friends made through college, I don’t see any way to make friends easily, let alone friends that are like you or are good people in general

That I don’t know. I’m 43 with zero friends besides my husband. Last one moved to Kentucky 5 years ago.

Yeah, meeting new friends later in life can be tough, but it’s definitely not impossible. A good resource for me was a website called Meetup.com. Not sure where you are or if meet-up works there, and its been 10 years since I used it so idk how good it still is.

But I would go to board game meet-ups at bars and coffee shops and just play random games with random people for a few hours like once a month. I havent made any new friends from that tho. Not sure what you’re into either or if there’s anything that would interest you on there. It might take some looking. I also did Toastmasters for a few months.

The ideal scenario imo is you go somewhere regularly, see some people who also go regularly, enjoy hanging out with them there, then either get invited or invite them to something other than that regular thing.

I think it’s genuinely harder today because of phones. So much of my dopamine is coming from this electric rectangle. Interacting with other people is how a lot of people used to get dopamine. Thats why so many people feel lonely. Nothing can replace being with someone in person, nothing.

Not trying to make it seem easy because it’s not and even if you do “all the right things” it might still not work out. But I had an ok time with meetup and toastmasters and wanted to share. Hell maybe go to a networking event and just talk to people lol. Wow just remembered I met a guy Chris who was literally there to find people to play flag football with him and his son lol. He was a private investigator. I did go play two games too. Haven’t really seen him since.

When my now-spouse and I were dating, we once got pretty drunk together at a party and started crying because we felt sad for the infinite number of parallel universe selves who never met.
