Expounding upon the Civil War origins of our problems:

Every member of Confederate “high command”, both military and civilian, should have been executed.

The wealth and property of any slaveholding plantationers should have been seized by force and redistributed to the formerly enslaved to follow through on the “forty acres and a mule” edict. Allowing slavers to keep and/or regain control of their wealth was a critical error.

The South should have had their participation in the federal government stripped away from them and been under US military rule for at least a generation.

Of course all this assumes that there was the public heart to actually stand up for black people and truly punish the slavers, where the reality was at best complicated, and more likely highly disappointing.

Today’s alt-right is a descendant of earlier subaltern right movements that tried to make headway in the mainstream, and the UDC is one of the most successful examples of that.

I read some time ago that after Nixon Resigned there wa some rich guy (Roger ailed maybe) that decided he was going to prevent that from happening again. And went all in on propaganda. Other rich guys got involved over time (Murdoch), think tanks were built, and hooks were learned and workshopped, aids in the 80’s racism… basically always, anti trans… Whatever got their voter based angry.

So shut that down, turn off the 24/7 propaganda.

Nah. If it wasn’t Trump, it would’ve been someone else. There’s a lot of bad people out there.

Unpopular opinion, but the US was destined to go alt-right since it was founded.

Agree. People tend to not realize that the system itself is the problem, not the people currently at the top of the pyramid. They are exchangable, as long as the (capitalist) system itself is still in place

No. Populist movements have been growing worldwide, and most of them have been far-right.
