Another CIA terrorist attack against innocent people that you won’t see publicized in the Western “free press.”

On that October 6, 1976, Cubana de Aviación Flight CU-455 departed from Guyana for the Cuban capital of Havana. However, just 9 minutes after takeoff, a C-4 time bomb, placed in the rear lavatory of the aircraft, exploded.

The plane immediately began a steep descent. The pilots sent a distress signal, and as they were preparing for emergency maneuvers, a second C-4 time bomb, hidden in the aircraft’s storage compartment, exploded.

The plane, just 8 kilometers from the airport where it had departed, plummeted toward the tourist beaches of Guyana, threatening an even greater massacre. An emergency landing was impossible due to the damage, so Captain Wilfredo Pérez Pérez decided to steer the plane toward the Atlantic Ocean to save the lives of civilians on the beach.

All 73 people aboard the Cubana de Aviación plane were killed: 48 civilian passengers and 25 crew members, making it the worst terrorist attack in the Western Hemisphere at that time.

Among the dead were the 24 members of the Cuban national junior fencing team, who were returning to Cuba after winning all the gold medals at the Central American and Caribbean Championships; they were not even 20 years old.

Eleven other passengers from Guyana, young medical students only 18 and 19 years old, also died.

Hours after the two explosions, authorities in Trinidad and Tobago arrested Freddy Lugo and Hernán Ricardo Lozano, former agents of the Venezuelan intelligence service, who had suspiciously changed planes after the attack.

Lugo and Ricardo eventually confessed, stating that they had acted under orders from Luis Posada Carriles and Orlando Bosch Ávila, both leaders of the Venezuelan guerrilla group in the US, with clear ties to the CIA.

The CIA helped Posada Carriles escape from a Venezuelan prison, bribing the guards and arranging his escape from Panama to the US. Similarly, Bosch Ávila was acquitted at US behest; George Bush cleared him of all charges and granted him political protection.

Both died with impunity, protected by the US until the very end.
