That whole website was a fantastic rabbit hole. Thank you!
Yeah, it’s a goodie, eh?
I like these kinds of sites, but so many seem to be American-produced for one reason or another. Really cool to see one of from a Euro (well, French) perspective…
Oui (I am American lol)
Note that the “swimming pool in Nemours” (the round yellow thing) is not uncommon in France. It’s a “sunflower pool” and a lot were created like that in the 70s. We used those up to 90s (and even more if they were taken care of).
It’s round, but the swimming pool inside is a regular rectangle.
Interesting. So they were covered like that to allow swimming in bad weather and cold weather, I guess?
If I understand correctly, these were built in the wake of the many childrens’ deaths related to the Juigné-sur-Loire river drowning and the sinking of the cruise boat La Fraidieu on Lake Geneva. The idea was to help French youth become better swimmers, right?
Promoting swimming was the plan, yes. I don’t remember the children’s death because I was not born yet, but I suspect it gave one more incentive to teach swimming to every kid.
In the summer, it can be opened, on one side, and closed when it rains or when the weather is cold.
Did the side fall off?

Wow, that’s weirdly impressive. oO
spite houses are fun
It’s interesting how there appears to be no graffiti or that many broken windows.
Usually when exploring places they’re covered in graf, have been vandalised, the metal stolen and burnt
Seems to be a valley region dominated by nature, so I’m guessing that plays a part. So, perhaps not easy to reach, and also a pretty unique building that people have less impulse to tag up, salvage, etc. *shrug*
Very cool website thank you!
