Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council said that since Jan. 1, 2024, the number of Taiwanese who have gone missing, been detained or likely faced restrictions on their freedom of movement in China has reached 449. The figure increased by four cases over the week, Taipei Times reported.
According to the council, 168 people are considered missing — up from 165 a week earlier. Another 39 Taiwanese have been detained for questioning, with this figure unchanged. In 242 cases, the council suspects that people’s freedom of movement has been restricted in China; there was one additional such case over the week.
