So that at the end of the doom scenario, the whole world turns into a giant computer just so the AI can solve a difficult puzzle?
The most likely doom scenario I’d reckon is a global food crisis from climate change, resulting from trying to build out the data centers needed to adequately power the infrastructure necessary to keep expanding the corporate AI build-out.
Agreed. Misallocation of resources by a bunch of astoundingly credulous capitalists is a far more likely apocalypse, even if it wouldn’t make for a good Roland Emmerich movie.
Not that I think this is exactly the most realistic thing but it is weirdly on point and a excellent piece of art that we should all experience.

Thor Ragnarok feels like a weirdly good analogy for the AI transition.
Hela = AI, Asgard = modern society, Thor = Millennials/Gen Z, Odin = tech/business, Loki = humanity’s impulses, and Surtur = whatever comes after the singularity.
Hela suddenly destroys what Thor thought was foundational, exposes the ugly foundations of the old Asgard, and eventually becomes so intertwined with it that Thor has to let something even bigger destroy the old system to move forward.
But Ragnarok isn’t p(doom): Asgard falls, not its people. They survive an awkward transition and eventually build New Asgard within a completely different world.
Basically the age-old story of an old order becoming unsustainable, collapsing, and its people adapting into whatever comes next.
They’ve already answered this for you. The summary is that as the earth’s surface area steadily is taken up by more and more AI and AI supporting infrastructure, they just sort of run out of space. So they kill us all with a virus so they can use more space and eventually go to the stars.
