People who still use both Reddit and Lemmy and are slowly leaving Reddit. How do you do it?

I have noticed that I’m very often on Reddit through either Apollo or the website out of mere habit (possibly even addiction). However, I have also noticed that the more I use Reddit, the more I feel agitated by all the negativity and toxicity from the users.

This is pretty much in all subreddits I’m active in. Mostly in piracy and piratedgames, people quarrel over the most trivial things and downvote each other for no reason at all.

Unfortunately, Lemmy has less content than Reddit. Though, I can’t call what is on Reddit content anymore.

Uninstall any apps for Reddit and decide that you are not ok with the data harvesting those apps do in you phone. Then set your browser to auto delete Reddit cookies. You will soon find yourself so annoyed using their webpage, that you will stop. Allow yourself to be subjected to their incessant cookie whining and dark patterns and hostile design, intended to push you to install their app.

or skip to account delete and never go there again.

i think most people are lurking on reddit now, most of them said they did it to avoid the bannings. hence why reddits is try to force people to use the app. The HORRID UI on new reddit on the browser on mobile is kinda unusable, i use an extensions, to force it to old reddit and make it properly resize on a mobile phone.

I put a Lemmy widget on my phone’s homescreen (using Boost, but probably many apps can do it), my widget is for Subscribed + New Comments sort

I basically only use it for modding a few communities I created. I have limited my scrolling and I’m scaling back my comments.

Also, I moved the Reddit icon over on my phone and put the Voyager icon there. Helps with the muscle memory.

No content is better than crap content, and I can spend that time doing something else and not just wasting the same amount of time on lemmy.

I still have a throwaway account for one off comments/posts for some really niche stuff where I’m looking for info, otherwise the major subs I used to hang around in were either lobotomized or cracked apart with new mods or spam bots.

same here, i made an acc again recently, after waiting a year+ from last years ban, i rarely go on it for my niche content. Major subs are heavily politicized and monitored by the filters, i avoid those.

I just joined “thelemmy.club” today! I am trying out lemmy because at Reddit, for no reason given to me, I am shadow banned (if it is the proper term for it). Whenever I post a new topic, even on issues that may help other users in the future, my post is immediately removed/deleted by the “Reddit filters…”. And, I get “Rate limit exceeded…” when I reply to comments within a few minute after my successful reply. I don’t know! I hope I will find the communities here in thelemmy.club those subs that I joined in on Reddit - that would be nice.

Put your Lemmy app in the spot of wherever your Reddit app is. Make the Reddit app take much more effort to get to. I used to have mine on my home screen so it is one click to get to it after unlocking. Now that’s where my Lemmy app is and RedReader is in a folder off to the side. (I suppose I could go one step further and just remove the Reddit app from the home screen folder.) I end up checking Lemmy first now.

The nice part is that Lemmy is getting big enough that I end up seeing a lot of the same news when I run out of content on Lemmy (start getting into more obscure posts) as when I switch to Reddit. So I find myself thinking “I’ve already seen that” so it makes the Reddit app feel more “stale” and easier to leave.

I recently discovered I’ve been shadowbanned, with zero idea why. Appeals vanish into the void without an answer… So I can read, but not participate. Feels pretty hostile towards users. Maybe they’re doing me a favor?

many dont know either, others had bans in the past that were lifted, but the filters still assume they are evading bans. or your accounts could be lumped up with others in the same subs(as bott)

Lemmy definately has less content, but it feels like the old internet. People are just friendlier here. My biggest recommendation is to post/comment a lot; I think things like that really help the platform grow. I can honestly say I’ve never received any negative feedback here, so its a pretty safe space.

My experience has been very different, especially yesterday. My reddit account had plenty of trolls on the blocklist, but I encountered an individual here who made several snap judgments about me based on an innocent response to a question and then demanded an apology from me for their hurt feelings when I said nothing targeted at anyone and they initially inserted themselves with arrogance and vitriol.

As well, if you’re not full on tankie/anarchist or at least more than halfway to either one, prepare for people to take issue with your stances. Vehemently. As if you were personally attacking them for having the audacity to, you know, be an individual.

However I still prefer this experience to whatever it is Reddit has become and agree with your suggestions for how to make it more engaging.

i automatically block those people on lemmy, sorry but a political statement based on opinion and attitude is an immediately block. as is ones that make very condescending ones.

blocking on reddit seems futile, since alot of them are bots/propaganda bots, theres for every troll blocked, another 10 pops up. also reddit stops blocking thier comments if you go over 1000 users. it only works if its a small subreddit. politics, news, sports, movies, ask reddit, etc impossible to block them all.

Expecting positive interactions with other humans, that is your problem right there ha

Everyone romanticizes the “old” Reddit and the old internet quite a bit. There were always trolls, fake accounts, a holes and whiny jerks. The ads, bots, and all the more recent issues just tipped reddit over the edge.

I felt bad leaving a 15 year old account but it wasn’t hard. I hadn’t enjoyed Reddit in a while. I uninstalled the client and installed mlem. It also helped me to temporarily switch browsers so I’m not getting Reddit threads as part of the search results. If I want Reddit in my search results then I will look for that intentionally.

Dunno, I rather enjoy interacting with other humans.

Its people that fuck things up, broadly speaking. I don’t particularly love people, but humans are alright in my book. Unfortunately, people are everywhere.

To define terms a little more clearly, humans recognize things like “the other human” and “do unto others” and such. People, broadly, are greedy selfish creatures that will step on your feet without a second glance but be utterly appalled should anybody have the unmitigated gall to treat them in kind.

These definitions transcend all political divisions and ideologies and belief systems, for the record. I have known some lovely religious conservative humans and some genuinely awful and repulsive progressively-minded people.

I always try to be a human. Emphasis on try, as people make it difficult sometimes.

Ahh yes, tankies and anarchists, famously the only political ideologies that “take issue with your stances.”

This is totally an echo chamber. Just look around. Its part of what drew us all here at the end of the day.

And for the record, I prefer that flavor of madness over whatever the US is voting in around the country right now, so maybe take my observations as nothing more or less than just that - observations.

Not saying we in the united States aren’t to blame for a lot of what’s going on but its starting to become global. Migration/race issues are becoming hot everywhere and at the same time everyone is rushing in the new era of survalience on the level, or surpassing that of 1984.

I always used to imagine that I could just flee my country when things got too bad, but increasingly it seems like its spreading every where.

I am more and more convinced we need to build a commune somewhere in New Zealand and do our best to ride out the climate wars in the most resilient part of the world. What are the weed laws in NZ and how seriously do they take them?

I’d wanna be south of the arctic circle, though. I need something resembling seasons and am absolutely certain I would go genuinely insane with six month intervals of night and day. As long as those conditions are met, I’m down with that too.

I also read somewhere that Britons might wanna consider starting vineyards as the climate there is likely to become more Mediterranean. Also something to consider.

It is jivwr here somehow. To be fair, the only thing that keeps my account alive on reddit is troubleshooting issues. There is a treasure trove of information on reddit about some technical issues or ideas that I usually seek solutions to.

Here, much less. I did try to make posts and seek for help or hints but it seems quite dead so far. Discourse is little to none.

But as a social media replacement to reddit, lemmy is pretty good. Plenty of posts off different instances make up my feed with random news, ideas, funny posts and discussions.
