Ed Sheeran’s tour of North and South America was plunged into chaos Tuesday when four of his supporting acts abruptly quit in solidarity with the rapper Macklemore, who was dropped for making pro-Palestinian comments onstage.
Hours after Sheeran posted on social media about Macklemore’s ouster and attributed the decision to the tour’s promoters, Irish acts Aaron Rowe and Beoga, the Danish band Lukas Graham, and Finneas posted on Instagram that they were leaving the tour.

Sheeran could have avoided this by telling Kraft where to shove it. Especially if his feelings about Palestine are what his post is designed to make us think they are. There’s not many artists who can sell out a stadium.

I actually enjoyed some of his more acoustic/soft songs quite a lot and I don’t think anyone can deny he’s a talented songwriter, some of the footage of him coming up with songs is truly impressive if you’ve ever made music, so I was willing to give a pass to the mainstream garbage and him being the definition of a wet wipe a-lister despite normally listening to niche stuff, but depending where this goes then I’ll probably never be able to listen to these songs again without them being tainted. Add him to the list I guess…

I don’t know anything about tour logistics so maybe this wouldn’t have worked, but I think it would’ve been very good PR to find venues in those towns that were owned by people who support the Free Palestine message and just move. Probably wouldn’t work since they’d likely have smaller max capacities, I dunno, but I feel like something could’ve been done. Choosing to silence someone is not as apolitical as he seems to think.
