  • That translation is quite inaccurate. Not saying I can really do a better job but for example there’s nothing in there translating to “asshole”, that would be “trou du cul” or “trouduc” for short.

It’s really quite impossible to translate especially due to the way we string them together which doesn’t make any sense in English, we kinda just put them after each other and it works in french. Also the words have almost completely lost their original meaning, they’re just the insults now.

Nom de dieu: in the name of god/god damn

    Putain: whore (used like fuck/fucking)

Bordel de merde: “mess of shit” a bloody mess that is full of shit, or something

Saloperie: from “salope” (also kind of “whore” but they don’t get paid for it).

    Connard: dickhead/asshole

Enculé de ta mère: this comes as one piece, enculé means you get fucked in the ass then we add “of your mother” just because we can.

  • This is probably not really possible. Was watching something recently about how modern cassette players are super bad compared to the ones from the peak of the technology. Like they’re bigger, offer less functionality, and aren’t as reliable etc. Because they’re not benefitting from economy of scale anymore, the old assembly lines are long gone and creating new ones that can beat the old stuff is crazy hard/expensive. So they just all use the one model available for the actual mechanism and it’s trash.

So if someone made a CRT today it probably wouldn’t beat the old stuff.

  • Yes I think a lot of people (myself included) stumble when we try to clean up and “getting hammered on Friday night” isn’t a good hobby anymore, and your old party friends all go through the same thing. Just need to replace it with “XYZ hobby on Thursday” or whatever, but that’s a bit easier said than done maybe.

  • Music in particular I would kind of consider an exception, just because of the benefits of giving early musical education can help so much with acquiring the “language” while the brain is still in sponge mode, 4 to 10 years old.

If you’re forcing your teenager to work at it day and night and to go to the conservatory etc, that’s a different story.
