I still find it fascinating that the flying machines we invented don’t flap like birds
Many people (perhaps most famously Leonardo da Vinci) investigated the possibility, long before successful fixed-wing aircraft were built (and presumably before they were conceived of).
Interesting that despite being used throughout the natural world, ornithopters have never been successful in the machine world
