Numerous organizations in solidarity with Cuba are convening a week of mobilizations, debates, cultural activities, and public actions in Berlin from September 12 to 19, under the slogan “Cuba needs solidarity. Our solidarity. Now!” , to denounce the intensification of the US economic, financial, and commercial blockade against the island.

The initiative calls for an international response to the consequences of the US embargo on the Cuban people. The program includes a permanent protest in front of the US Embassy, ​​conceived as an information point, a space for activities, and a symbol of international solidarity.

On Saturday, September 12, the week will begin at 12:00 PM with a bicycle ride from the Cuban Embassy to the US Embassy . At 3:00 PM, the opening ceremony will take place, featuring a report on the situation in Cuba and a discussion about the media, followed by a concert by Wenzel .

On Sunday the 13th, the day will be dedicated to health , with information from Cuba, a presentation and discussion, as well as performances by Pablo Miró and Kontra. On Monday the 14th, the focus will be on energy , with a discussion and a film screening, along with concerts by Tobias Thiele and DJ Craft (KIZ) .

On Tuesday the 15th, the focus will be on food and supplies , accompanied by a concert by Brxlike . Wednesday the 16th will be dedicated to Fidel Castro and his centenary , with a presentation by Patrik Köbele of the DKP, performances by Gina Pietsch and Fabio Costa , and a screening of the film Cuba after Castro (2026, 90 minutes, original version with German subtitles).

On Thursday the 17th, a debate on the situation of youth in Cuba will be held , in addition to performances by Masur and Empress Beatriz . On Friday the 18th, the day will focus on culture , with a debate and a concert by Nicolás Miquea .

On Saturday, September 19, at 3:00 p.m., the closing ceremony will be held, and at 4:00 p.m., a symbolic action of surrounding the US Embassy will take place , as part of a day dedicated to international solidarity , which will conclude with a concert.

The appeal recalls that Cuba has maintained a policy of international solidarity for decades, from its support for liberation movements and its fight against South African apartheid to the training of health professionals from the Global South, the sending of medical brigades and literacy programs.

The organizers denounce the tightening of the US embargo during Donald Trump’s presidency and point to its effects on Cuban access to fuel, medicine, food, basic necessities, and international financing. They also criticize European governments for not taking sufficient measures to prevent US sanctions from affecting European companies, banks, and institutions, despite formally opposing the embargo at the United Nations.

The European appeal “Unblock Cuba” also highlights the extraterritorial nature of US policy, which can pressure companies from third countries through sanctions and legal and financial threats. As examples, it cites the difficulties European companies face in doing business with Cuba, restrictions on financial transfers, and sanctions against shipping companies involved in supplying oil to the island.

The organizing groups believe that solidarity with Cuba has an international and political dimension that transcends the island’s borders. Therefore, they are calling for participation in the Berlin events and for extending solidarity actions to other European cities.

“Get informed! Participate with actions! Come to the protest in large numbers and bring other people!” is the call from the organizers, who present the permanent protest as a space to make the Cuban reality visible and demand an end to the US blockade.
