No. Jail the scammers, and tax the wealth. What do you think the scammers want to do with the money they fleece? Good? Hell no, they want to be the next rich guy refusing to reinvest in the society they benefit from existing in.
Law matters, if you let scammers scam those you deem justifiable you open the door to them scamming everyone else, including those you would judge unworthy of victimization. In the same respect you must punish financial crime when it occurs or you get… well… this. This is why people talk about justice being blind and not picking favorites, and why it’s an affront to moral law that we punish petty crime more severely than mass social violence committed by super rich corporations for profit. At least in today’s America, as long as you are making a healthy buck in it, it’s not a crime.
Sympathy? No. But no parades either, because most bad actions are still bad, even if that particular victim deserved it.
the scammers are more likely target less “fortunate” people after they are done with the rich ones. its just the rich one has more money, so they are a easy target. they are pretty indiscriminate

Are they scamming the rich to help the poor? I don’t have any sympathy for rich people falling victim to scams, but I wouldn’t throw a parade for someone who just did something selfish.

I was thinking more like someone who electonically robs Meryl Lynch or something. and take that money and donates it to a bunch of charities. Not just the write off charities corporations use.

We shouldn’t. They don’t live in our reality therefore they don’t receive the benefits of said reality.
We do that on the Saint Luigi. It’s like St Patrick’s day, but with the color red, to evoke the blood of CEOs and billionaires.
Because if these rich can get scammed, your lovely retired grandparents/parents can get scammed too, and have no way of making that money back. They might literally have their lives ended early by scammed reducing their quality of living.
Rich =/= evil. But we also know that rich people, ironically, can be incredibly guarding of their money; not eager to part with it. So if those particular rich people are tricked into parting either money, it is bad for the rest of us.
And let’s be honest: ordinary people imitate the rich, including following them off a cliff of bad investment, e.g into AI or cryptocurrency
Scammers usually have no idea if the person they’re scamming is rich, poor, young or old. And they don’t care. You can breathe a sigh of relief if the victim turns out to have more savings, but there’s no point celebrating them having an amount stolen that would devastate you personally.
My mother recently told me that her friend’s daughter, who is still in HIGH SCHOOL, had to take a break from classes to call her bank because of money being taken out of her account. The bank wouldn’t pick up, which i think indicates that multiple people were getting attacked or stolen from. I bring this up because,
- suppose that all started off as an attack targeting known rich people
- Then because of greed, it progresses to ordinary earners as well
- The bank is preoccupied helping its richer customers who called in first/are ultimately more valuable to them, and cannot spare time to help the ordinary people also under attack
This is the principle of scamming. They rarely target the rich in particular.
when they’re rich beyond a certain extent, they must be evil, because the way to amass such wealth would not be through honest labour. But otherwise I take your point
Even if it’s true that the largest wealthy are only amassed through evil and dishonest deeds, it is also true that aome people come into their wealth via inheritance, and some genuinely have no idea what their relatives did to produce that generous inheritance.
Therefore at least some inheritors of great wealth are not evil.
Marxism is a valuable method of analysing the world but it should be used with added nuance - in conjunction with other philosophies for instance.
