I would love for actual gas rations to be implemented, maybe that would finally be enough to get people to actually bike places.
It’s amazing to me to think Netherlands is the way it is today due in part to the gas shortage of the early 70s.
USA did also start to reinvest in public transportation after these shortages. We have obviously ways to go.
I don’t believe we will survive the Trump administration though. The federal government is absolutely going bankrupt, and with it will go any reinvestment into our public transportation. I’m a pessimist so hopefully someone can be more cheerful below.
We need to balkanize already
NGL I think this would be better for the country, the federal government has so much power, it taxes us yet provides nothing in return except endless idiotic wars
“As we pass Labor Day tomorrow, you’ll start to see demand decline as we move out of summer driving season,” Wright said on ABC’s “This Week.”
Seems like this is more “due to seasonal trends, we expect gas prices to go down” moreso than a command to drive less (as implied in pic and by article headline).
So the leading Democrat candidate for president is spreading fake news? Color me surprised
I agree with your analysis and I just found this post funny from Newsom. However I think there is a more serious underlying issue.

I agree with Jeff Currie that the crisis is just beginning regarding the fuel issues caused by this Iran war. What do you think?
Unable to watch video atm due to crowded area.
But completely agree on issues with oil / petroleum based products just beginning. I think the US is pretty insulated from the global effects of the near oil shut off we’re dealing with, and even we are running into issues.
Just switched to hybrid car (housing situation not conducive to full EV) and crazy thankful for it. My area hasn’t been hit as hard as others on gas prices. Just visited my old man and gas there is ~175% of what it was on last visit (winter 2025). He’s really regretting only own diesel trucks and large V8 SUVs rn.
The two of us are reasonably well off and are absorbing the hit to finances well, but I can’t imagine how it is for others. It really drives home how bad our transport options are in the US.
Don’t fucking use Kalshi as a news source. GFC.
GFC??
Gesus Fucking Christ?
Tell that to Newsom… 🤣🤣
This screenshot is a nesting doll of bad.
I added a business insider article to the description just for you. ❤️
It’s bad enough that Gavan Newsom stole Mitt Romeny’s policy ideals, does he have to copy his charisma too?
