The Eiffel Tower was forced to close on Monday after staff went on strike to protest the “sidelining” and “replacement” of female employees during a recent visit by a Hindu delegation. The Paris landmark’s operator said the group had requested that the private visit be organised in such a way as to limit “interactions with women”.

How sad and wrong that systems still discriminate against half a population, and they make it too hard to leave and be free to self-actualize as well. :(

    Good for them. Strike ahead!
They were tourists - they need to accept the local customs not the other way around.

Excuse my dumb, but does Hindu typically have a thing against women? I feel like this is the first I’m hearing about it.

It obviously comes up all the time when talking about extreme Islam, and some Christians are jerks, and I’m not saying “India is known to always be great to women”, but I hadn’t thought that was for religious reasons…

Its about BAPS, a really problematic sub sect aiding from Jains (they have religion on hard mode) where they dont have onion, garlic to also follow extremely strict guidelines on living. The gujarati and jain communities worldwide are known to assimilate only via money, and are very pro their own religious beliefs and practices.

But in India (we are super diverse) there is very small impact of this community. Disrespecting woman with such archaic beliefs is a complete no no. Stay in your house, and your villages. Why go abroad and spread such andrew tate bullshit?

French people are rude, but 1000% agree to their unions and fight for rights.

Woah woah, this is a Jain thing? That’s even more confusing to me. I thought Jainism was all about doing absolutely minimal harm, and trying to not even kill bugs and stuff but instead respectively redirecting them or wherever.

I know any religion can get corrupted, but I thought that one would be harder to make a problem…

Mate. Jains, Gujratis and Marwaris are the worst offenders of Casteism.

These guys are the hoarders of the biggest wealth of india - land, corporations, monopolies etc. You know how the world looks at billionaires? Majority of economists and researchers look at the community in very same way.

You will notice how these communities have invested and thrived across the globe. Majority of Indians do labour job, And these guys own the industries.

Some 86 years earlier, another deeply intolerant person arrived in Paris and demanded to be shown the Eiffel Tower. The maintenance staff of the tower disconnected the lift cable, informing his entourage that it was out of order.

the group had requested that the private visit be organised in such a way as to limit “interactions with women”.

It sounds like there was already a way the delegation could achieve their goal of limiting “interactions with women”. They simply didn’t have to go to the Eiffel Tower.

It would be a shame if every single worker there woke up tomorrow feeling female, and so couldn’t be presentable to the sexist group.
