there used to be a time where the internet was a space space not corrupted by endless ads and evil individuals EVERYWHERE. sure you had some bad people here and there but they mostly kept to themselves. this was an underrated part of pre pandemic internet: we would mind our own business and we would know not to go in certain places.
i feel like they use the internet to push out of public life. if youre a woman, black, disabled, ugly etc. you have no space in the machine that can help you access all of history, where you can debunk what your capitalist government tells you, where you can find a community, art and so much more.
why should we leave? we were here first. why do we have to give this up to them ??
sorry for the double post but im having a stream of conciousness moment and trying not to let my saying my opinion muscle atrophy. i havent posted here for like 3 days because i feel paranoid and worried.
I do miss the authenticity of the internet 20 years ago but the bigotry was much more widespread and casual. The status quo rather than being under siege and behaving like a wild animal. I don’t want to go back to those times.
Internet was made by people for people before being sold to the corporations without the people’s consent.
It was made by DARPA
The original internet was made by University students and professors to connect with each other. Then the government assigned DARPA/ARPA to build the huge infrastructure that Bill Clinton administration sold to private Telecommunications corporations.
Which universities?
Originally it was UCLA, Stanford, UoU, UCSB.
That’s right.
I wish I could upload my brain into the internet and float around in people’s wifi for all eternity.
the trans urge to exist as an intangible form.
Same here, but my problem would be that I’d react to games too quickly because I don’t have to depend on biology, it’d make them too easy.
